Elegant Architecture of the Ottoman Empire: Beykoz Mansion

The Mansion, designed as a symmetrical square plan, consists of two floors. The inner walls of the Mansion, which was used in the construction of the outer walls, were built using brick, wooden carcass and stone. The colorful stones used on the walls of some halls on the exterior and interior distinguish this building from other mansions, Mansions and palace structures.

Beykoz or Mecidiye Mansion was established on a large land of seventy thousand square meters on average. There are magnolia, pine and linden trees around the mound. The Mansion is one of the elegant examples of Serdab mansions named after the word Serdab, which is used for areas that provide coolness.

This mansion, which served as a girls’ orphanage during World War I, was used in the 1920s for the treatment of patients with trachoma who had a kind of eye disorder. Later, he was transferred to the Bosphorus Command and transferred to the Ministry of Health and Social Assistance in 1953. Following the restoration works carried out by the Ministry, Beykoz Mansion was once again restored and the ruined parts of the building were restored to its former appearance by the students of the Academy of Fine Arts.
